Tinubu visits Awujale, Alake today

Tinubu and Awujale Oba Adetona

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Ogun state Thursday to pay homage to Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland and Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland.

According to Babatunde Olaotan, an aide of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Tinubu will first call on Oba Adetona in Ijebu-Ode, before moving to Abeokuta to visit Oba Gbadebo.

“You’re cordially invited by Governor Dapo Abiodun to welcome His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu – GCFR who will be paying us a visit tomorrow, 29th of June, 2023 in Ijebu-Ode and Abeokuta”, Olaotan wrote on Facebook.

“All our party leaders, elders and supporters in Ogun East Senatorial District should converge at Awujale’s place by 8:30am while our party leaders, elders, members and supporters in Ogun Central and Ogun West should gather at the Alake’s place by 10.30am.”

The visit is significant. Ogun provided Tinubu the platform for decisive statements during his presidential campaign. Ogun was also his launchpad to the presidency.

It was in the state, where he first used the popular phrase, ‘Emi Lokan’ in an emotive speech where he justified why he deserved to be his party’s presidential candidate, following his contributions in the historic election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

He also returned to Ogun mid campaign to speak on the twin crisis of currency and fuel scarcities, which he believed were contrived by a cabal to stop his election.

After announcing his plans to contest the presidential election in January 2022, Tinubu launched his consultation visits in Ogun on 12 February, visiting three prominent traditional rulers in their palaces.

The aim was to get their endorsements.

Just like he is planning to do on Thursday, he visited Oba Gbadebo, Oba Sikiru Adetona and Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro and ruler of Yewaland.

It was not clear, whether Tinubu will also visit the Olu of Ilaro on Thursday.

About

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of many traditional honours across the country, from north to south, west to east. The array of titles he has garnered was only comparable to that of Chief Moshood Abiola, winner of the 1993 Presidential election.
